I am quite selective regarding which projects I work on, which has almost nothing to do with the budget for the project and everything to do with how much I think I'll enjoy myself.
Webdesign is fun and challenging, and it should never feel like a chore. I've found that designing a small three page site can easily be as satisfying as a large E-Commerce site, it depends on many factors.
When I design a site, there is extensive consultation throughout the project. Each choice made limits future options, and it's best to have a thorough understanding of where the project is heading rather than having to do a complete overhaul halfway through. The more feedback I receive at each stage, the closer the site will be to what was intended.
I prefer to work with people who have a strong feeling about the style of site they want, yet are open to suggestions and discussion. Interest, patience and willingness to spend time in discussion are far more important than the level of IT literacy or familiarity with webdesign concepts. It is far easier to guide someone through the process if they are willing to make time.
opus imaginis is by no means a "set and forget" design company. Handing over a concept and expecting the designer to intuit your specific ideas and needs never works well. Client involvement is essential, and should be enjoyable and interesting for both parties.
